Oakbrook Farm

Photographic images from across America and around the world are on display Spring and Fall at the Photography Art Gallery at Oakbrook Farm Center for the Arts near Glendale, Ky. Comprised of the best selected photographic works of author/photojournalist Bill Thomas, a native of Glendale, over a period of forty years plus images from some of his students, exhibits range from close-up and abstract nature studies to endangered wildlife to landscape scenes around the globe. The exhibit changes every season, as does its theme.

Established in 1998 as part of Oakbrook Farm Center for the Arts, the gallery is a free offering which contributes to the culture of Kentucky and indeed the entire Midwest.

The Center is also the site where Thomas, who has authored more than two dozen books and more than a decade was a contributor to such major national magazines as LIFE, Smithsonian, Natural History, National Geographic and others, teaches occasional writing and photo workshops to students from all parts of the planet and all walks of life. The Center, which is open to the public as a non-profit entity, is part of Oakbrook Farm, which features a 40 acre wildlife sanctuary with two miles of hiking trails, a 10 acre wetland swamp, ponds and lots of rolling hills and meadows which interact with tracts of mixed hardwood forests. Wild turkey, coyote, whitetail deer and numerous species of birds live here.

Nearby is the historic railroad town of Glendale and a quaint Amish community. Among the attractions at Glendale are two fine restaurants - the Whistle Stop and The Depot - for overnighting there's the Petticoat Junction Bed & Breakfast, all less than five minutes from the Photo Art Gallery.
